Let me be the first to welcome you to Layman’s Logic!

Having never created Internet content before, you can imagine I had dozens of questions
as I ventured down this path. The first and most basic question was, do I need a name for
my blog? The answer came swiftly, as if I had asked a rhetorical question. Yes, of course
your blog needs a name, how else will people find you online? With that simple advice in
hand, it didn’t take long to decide on and title this blog ‘Layman’s Logic.’ Allow me to
explain.
When I finally made the decision to follow God’s prompting and write a book on spiritual
warfare, my primary concern was maintaining biblical accuracy. To achieve that goal, I
knew I would need counsel from a more experienced theologian. I was not formally
trained in any denomination of the church, I had not attended seminary, nor did I have a
master’s or doctorate degree in theology. So, I sought out someone who did.
I was privileged to meet with a pastor at our church who had earned his doctorate in
theology. He listened intently as I reviewed my notes and shared the basic outline of what
God had brought to my attention and understanding through the study of His word. After
ninety minutes of discussion, I’ll never forget what he said next.
He agreed the topic was vitally important for individual Christians and God’s church as a
whole; however, many of the books written on the subject were authored by theologians
like himself, and as a result, the text was often presented in language difficult for the
average Christian to understand. “Your book” he said, “will come from a layman’s
perspective, and for that reason, I believe your content will resonate with a much larger
audience.” So, now you have the explanation for the first half of this blog’s title.
The second half of the title is similarly simple to explain.
For years I avoided reading the Bible because it didn’t read like any other book. It was austere, cryptic, full of rules, and hard to understand. It didn’t seem to apply to my life. However, by way of consistent study, I came to the realization that the Bible is much like an owner’s manual, only this book offers specific instructions for God’s children through every stage of their life. Yes, there are do’s and don’ts, but they are not unlike those offered by your parents, your employer, your teacher, or your coach.
The truth is, we have a Creator, and He has provided an instruction manual for our
enjoyment of this life, to prevent self-harm and the harming of others, and to offer a
pathway to eternal fellowship with Him. I now understand that the Bible is not mystic and
controlling, it is full of wisdom, practical knowledge, and sound logic on how to best
navigate our lives and interact with the world around us.
My intent going forward, is to use this platform, as a layman (not formally trained in any
religion) to share the practical and logical application of truth found in the Bible. When that
truth first became apparent to me, my literal reaction was, “Why didn’t anyone ever tell me
this before?” I hope and pray that as God works through me, His truth might be revealed
to you in new and fascinating ways.
Please share this resource with friends and family and visit often. I look forward to sharing in this spiritual journey with you. To God be the glory!
